I Love Where I Live

Our 1950s Airbnb Reno in Auburn: Follow the Full Makeover

We bought a 1955 home in Auburn and got straight to work — demo started the same day we closed. Follow along as Curt and I turn this classic brick ranch into a stylish Airbnb, one week (and one surprise) at a time.

From real estate to local life, I’m always sharing what’s happening in Auburn. Let’s connect so you never miss what’s new around town!

This is the first time we’ve ever documented a renovation from the very beginning — and this house is going to be a fun one. The goal? Turn a well-loved 1955 brick home in Auburn into a one-of-a-kind Airbnb.

Day One: Demo Starts on Closing Day

You read that right. We closed and rolled right into demo. This home already had great bones thanks to the previous owners — they invested in all the hard stuff you can’t see. So now? We get to make it pretty.

Highlights from Day One:

  • Tearing out flooring and getting a plan in place for paint, layout, and updates
  • Removing a bedroom pass-through to make way for a coffee bar
  • Previewing each room and planning updates — from sheetrock fixes to closet systems
  • And yes… discovering leftover Snickers and condoms in a cabinet

This home will feature all new landscaping, painted brick, refinished floors, fresh design — and a little bit of Amy-style magic. Can’t wait to share the next phase!

Our demo started by lunch on the day we closed.
