Amy's Podcast

One of the questions I get all the time is, “How long does it really take to get from Lake Martin to Auburn?” The answer isn’t as simple as you’d think, because the lake is huge. So in this episode, I’m breaking down drive time from StillWaters and explaining how location on the lake changes everything.

One of the most common questions I get is about drive time. If you’re living at Lake Martin but working, shopping, or spending time in Auburn, Alabama, you want to know exactly how long that drive really takes.

The answer depends on where you are on the lake. And that’s the part most people don’t realize.

How Big Is Lake Martin Really?

Lake Martin has approximately 880 miles of shoreline. That’s not a typo. If you stretched that shoreline out, it would reach all the way to Chicago, Illinois.

This isn’t a small body of water. It’s massive. And because it’s so large, drive time varies depending on which side of the lake you’re on.

Drive Time from StillWaters to Auburn

If you’re leaving from StillWaters, the drive to Auburn is typically around 35 minutes for most people.

For me, door to door, it’s closer to 29 minutes. Please don’t tell the popo.

The route is straightforward. Take Highway 34, turn right onto Highway 280, then head toward North College Street. North College takes you straight into Toomer’s Corner.

Other Areas of Lake Martin and Their Drive Times

Different lake communities naturally put you closer to different cities.

On the east side of the lake, you’ll find areas like Jacksons Gap and Alexander City.

Within Alexander City are well-known communities including The Ridge, The Heritage, Wicker Point, and Willow Point.

There’s also Equality and Tallassee, each offering different proximity advantages.

If you live in Equality, you’re closer to Montgomery. If you’re in Alexander City, you’re more on the Birmingham side of the lake.

Your drive time depends entirely on where your home sits along that 880 miles of shoreline.

How Far is Lake Martin to Auburn, Alabama – Episode 2

Hey guys, welcome to Toomer’s to Lake Martin with Amy B. Cotney. This is episode 2, and today we’re talking about drive time because that’s a big question I get. How long does it take to get from Lake Martin to Auburn, Alabama?

That’s kind of a trick question because I don’t think people understand how big the lake actually is. Lake Martin has approximately 880 miles of shoreline. That’s how much shoreline we have. It’s crazy. If you stretched it out, it would go all the way to Chicago, Illinois.

There are different quadrants of the lake. Today I’m leaving from StillWaters. For the normal person, the drive is probably around 35 minutes. For me, door to door, I can usually make it in about 29 minutes. Please don’t tell the popo.

I take Highway 34, turn right onto 280, and usually turn at North College. North College takes you directly into Toomer’s.

We’ll do another episode about different areas of the lake and their drive times because we have Jacksons Gap, Alexander City, The Ridge, The Heritage, Wicker Point, Willow Point, Equality, and Tallassee. If you live in Equality, you’re closer to Montgomery. If you live in Alexander City, you’re more on the Birmingham side.

The lake is a huge body of water, and drive time depends on where you are.

Thank you for being here. Happy Wednesday.
